A healthy community starts with us

Hey friends 👋🏾
It’s September! This means we’re getting ready for the rain and oh those beautiful orange leaves. We hope you enjoy this classic Pacific Northwest fall as much as summer.
In this issue, we highlight health equity, Sickle Cell Awareness Month and organizations making waves by providing culturally responsive care in our community. By the way 👀 there is a health category in the XB directory. So, if you’re a provider, join us and start reaching more community members!

Black Health Equity

Health equity matters for our community. African Americans continue to face higher rates of conditions like Sickle Cell disease, hypertension, and heart disease. When low-income struggles are added, the impact can hit even harder. But the good news is, we're not facing this alone đź’›
This Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we're highlighting the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation of Oregon, which runs focus groups, educates the community and advocates for statewide policy supporting patients in hospitals.
They're joined by other local organizations doing great work: North by Northeast Community Health Center, The Miracles Club, and Healthy Birth Initiatives at Multnomah County. Together, they offer care coordination, recovery support, primary care, treatment, and help enrolling in health insurance.
This is what it looks like when community takes care of community.
✨Business Spotlight✨

Saravit Direct Health is a direct primary care practice in our directory. Founded by Dr. Siatta Dunbar, Saravit strives to ensure everyone has access to personalized, compassionate healthcare. Although Dr. Dunbar was originally trained as an architect, two personal tragedies combined with her own health struggles, pushed her to leave construction, attend medical school and specialize in lifestyle medicine. And her own recovery is proof of concept for the preventative approach she now practices.
Saravit Direct Health’s services include primary care, metabolic health and body composition work, cardiovascular fitness testing, and chronic disease management, with a strong lean toward lifestyle medicine. They use nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management as first-line treatment when providing care.
